Items may need to be established as parts of a Component Set. A Component Set is a grouping of items that may either be:
Individually sellable on their own or as part of a set OR
Not individually sellable and only sold as a set.
NOTE: Only create Component Sets if you are instructed to do so by your Trading Partner or SPS Implementation Consultant.
Creating the Parent Item
To create a Component Set in the Assortment Item Import template, you will first need to create the Parent item of the set, including all of that set's attributes. Parent items must include:
All relevant identifiers
ITEM TYPE must = Primary/Sellable
The attributes of the Parent item should represent the attributes of the whole set of items, including but not limited to the Vendor Part Description.
Altogether, this Parent item would look like this:
Creating the Child Items
Once the Parent item is created, create the Child component items and complete all required attributes.
NOTE: These items MUST be added in beneath the Parent item in the Item Import template.
Child items can have an ITEM TYPE of either:
Primary/Sellable or
Non-Sellable
Primary/Sellable Child Items
A Component item that is listed as Primary/Sellable is one that is sellable on its own or as a component of the Parent item set. In the example below, the Parent item is a patio set, with a Child item of a chair that is also sold on its own, outside of the patio set.
Non-Sellable Child Items
A Component item that is listed as Non-Sellable is only sellable as part of the Parent item’s set. In the example below, the Parent item is a basketball hoop set, with the Child items being the parts used to assemble the basketball hoop (the backboard, the rim, the net, etc...), but which which are not sold on their own.
Setting up Child Items
When setting up the Child component items in the Item Import template, you will need to associate a Parent Identifier, including one of:
PARENT UPC 1
PARENT GTIN 1
PARENT VENDOR PART NUMBER 1
NOTE: The Parent Identifier must refer to your catalog’s Unique ID; for instance, if your Unique ID is Vendor Part Number, then you must include the Parent Vendor Part Number.
If you do not know your Unique ID, reach out to assortment@spscommerce.com to verify.
The Parent Identifier links the Child item(s) to their Parent item. Three Child items linked to their Parent item in the template could look like this:
The SPS identifiers are the same for all component items within a set.
The item unique identifiers (the UPC and Vendor Part Number) are unique for each item within the Component Set.
The Vendor Part Number for the Parent item is then provided in the Parent Vendor Part Number field, linking the Child items to their Parent.
Altogether, this Component Set would look like this:
NOTE: This vendor's Unique ID = Vendor Part Number which is why the Parent Vendor Part Number must be provided in order to create the set.
You may have multiple Component Sets in the same template; however, Child items must always be provided below their Parent item.
In Assortment
Once you have completed your Component Sets, including the Parent item(s) and all Child items, import the template into Assortment. Once imported, you can view the item's Component information in the Item Details > Components page for any item.
